Aminat Agoro

Aminat is an independent researcher and cultural producer moving between Lagos and London. Born in Nigeria and brought up in England she received an MA from SOAS, University of London and a BSc from the University of Reading. She has worked in curating, project management and administration for institutions including; the Africa Centre, Omenka Gallery, 50 Golborne Gallery, Artco Gallery and 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair.

She most recently co-organised the inaugural Lagos Biennial working as curatorial project manager and acted as assistant to the Co-Curator of the Nigerian Modernism Conference convened at Tate Modern. She worked briefly as a freelance arts manager for artist and founder of ANAI Foundation, Peju Alatise.

Her research interests are focused on urban renewal and artistic intervention in rapidly urbanising cities of the global South. This encompasses themes of dis/connection between/within transnational and transcultural communities, and how South-South artistic collaborations can impact positively on lived realities. Self-initiated projects include; Ka’ssa – an urbanisation platform, and Bokantaj – a research-led collaboration exploring themes of diaspora and development. At Bokantaj she co-curated Afrokarib: the Haitian Chapter, and is currently working on Divinations of Worlds to Come, an exhibition of artists from the Francophone Antilles, to launch at the Agency Gallery in London in October 2018.
