Samuel Leuenberger

Samuel Leuenberger (b. 1974, Basel, Switzerland) is an independent curator based in Basel and Berlin. Leuenberger has over 20 years of experience in the visual arts bridging commercial and curatorial sectors. He is the founder and director of SALTS, a non-profit exhibition space in Birsfelden, Switzerland, which aims to promote interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue with emerging artists. Since 2016 he has curated Art Basel's Parcours sector – a week-long program of site-specific artworks and performances sited around Basel's historical center. As of 2019 he is a mediator for the New Patrons (Les Nouveux Commonditaires), covering the Swiss territory. He has contributed widely to international exhibitions and programs including Centre Pasquart (2018), Bienne, Salon Suisse–Pro Helvetia, Venice (2017); Les Urbaines, Lausanne (2015); and 14 Rooms, Basel (2014). Previous roles include arts advisor with Frahm Ltd in London; assistant curator at Kunsthalle Zurich; and Post-War & Contemporary Art Specialist at Christie’s Auctioneers in Zurich and his first job in the arts at Stephen Friedman Gallery in London. He holds a Master’s of Fine Arts in Post-War & Contemporary Art from Sotheby's Institute, in affiliation with the University of Manchester. He is also a committee member of Kunstkredit Basel (the nation's oldest City Arts Council) and teaches, currently at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHDK) in Zurich.
